Former broken sennheiser hd580 worth repairing?

Hey guys just a quick question. A piddling background: I simply bought a pair of Sound-Technica ATH-M50S (they're on their mode) to supercede my Sony MDR-XB700. The sony's xb700s are a fun headphone for sure, but I wanted a headphone with plenty heavy bass but with a little more clarity than the xb700s and hopefully the M50s can provide that.

Just now the question I have for yous is, if y'all had an old broken pair of sennheiser hd580, would you spend 40 bucks to repair them? These headphones accept seen nearly a decade of heavy apply. The cable went bad near a year or two ago and they've just been in the closet since. Only I found a replacement cablevision for it on amazon for around 40 bucks and I was wondering if they're worth fixing. How long do headphone drivers terminal? Do you lot call back their allegiance, after well over a decade of use, would still bring something to table after my M50s make it?

yes, definitely.

i sent headphones for repair 4 times to sennheiser. they always send you a new i, although i doubtable you get a refurbished headset back. (1 blown commuter, 1 bad cablevision, 2 snapped headbands)

when you send a discontinued model in, they will supervene upon it with the electric current model of equivalent value.

my hd570'southward were replaced with hd595's.

sennheiser repair is fine, only outcome is that the toll tin can sometimes be close to the cost of new units on sale. for $40 though if you lot really liked the sound of your headphones it is a no-brainer.

Oh well I wasn't planning to send em in. It's been and so many years, I'm sure the warranty has long since expired. I got them so long ago, I can't even retrieve when! I just didn't know if they'd be worth it. I mean don't somewhen headphone drivers degrade and lose their quality? Or are they more than robust than I assume? Too I have to consider, fifty-fifty if they oasis't degraded, would they be on par with current headphones of today, such every bit the m50s I'yard ordering? xl dollars is 1/3 the cost of the new m50s I bought.

Y'all tin buy new drivers for them if you want to prepare information technology yourself. Although that would be the more expensive route. I recently ordered the HD650 drivers and HD580 drivers, once I plant out that the 650 drivers worked, I tried calling sennheiser to cancel the order for the 580 drivers. Instead they just ate the toll & gave me a refund on the 580 drivers . So now I'm using the 650 drivers and have a spare 580 fix. I was informed by their repair dept it was a flat rate (out of warranty) like $forty or lx no thing what was incorrect with it.

I was informed by their repair dept information technology was a apartment rate (out of warranty) like $40 or 60 no matter what was wrong with it.

The replacement cablevision for those shouldn't cost you more than $20 btw; same cablevision every bit hd600/650 which can be bought from sennheiser direct. The hd650 cablevision is a trivial chip thicker than the 600 cable.

Yeah repair them for simply $40. They are definitely high quality and would probably beat out out the other two sets you have in audio quality. (too the bass nail though since HD580's are pretty nicely counterbalanced sounding)

And do what MrSneis says, get the upgraded cable for cheaper.
